Can the original hardwoods in our 1920s Druid Hills home be refinished, or do we need to replace them?

In most cases the original quartersawn or rift-sawn oak in Druid Hills estates can be refinished beautifully, even when the surface looks rough. We check thickness above the tongue, cupping, board separation, and any prior refinish history before recommending a path. Replacement is the call only when the wood is too thin to sand again or there is structural damage from water or settling.

We have a 1960s ranch in North Druid Hills with the original red oak floors. Should we refinish or update to a wider plank?

It depends on whether you want to keep the period feel or modernize. Original 2 1/4 inch red oak refinishes very well and usually costs less than replacement. If you are doing a full kitchen and family-room renovation and want a wider plank to match a more open layout, a site-finished or engineered wide-plank floor is the right move. We will walk you through the cost, timeline, and look of each.

We need flooring for a small office or practice near Emory Village or the CDC. How does that work?

We handle commercial work in that corridor regularly. Most projects are scheduled around the practice or business hours, with phased installs if the space cannot fully close. We coordinate furniture moves, demo, subfloor prep, and finish so the team is back in working space as quickly as possible.

We are doing a whole-home renovation in Druid Hills and want the flooring plan to respect the architectural envelope. Where do we start?

Start with a design consultation in the home.
