The edge finish is what transforms a piece of carpet into a polished, professional rug or runner. We offer three finishing methods, each with a different look and feel.
Fabric binding creates a clean, tailored border around the edge of the rug. You choose the fabric color and width. Binding works well for both casual and formal rugs, and it is the most popular option for standard area rugs.
Serging wraps yarn tightly around the edge of the rug for a classic, hand-finished look. Serging is available in a wide range of yarn colors and works especially well for runners and rugs with a more traditional or textured design.
Blind stitching folds the carpet edge under and stitches it in place, creating a nearly invisible finish. You can customize the stitch thickness, color, and material. This is the preferred option for stair runners and high-end custom rugs where you want a clean, uninterrupted look from edge to edge.

Yes. Most carpet styles in our showroom can be cut and finished into a custom area rug or runner. This includes plush, textured, frieze, Berber, and patterned carpet from brands like Fabrica, Masland, DH Floors, and Anderson Tuftex. Our team will confirm that your selected carpet is suitable for the size and finishing method you want. Visit any of our four showrooms to see options in person.
It typically takes approximately 1 day; however, turnaround time depends on the carpet selection and finishing method. Standard fabric binding is typically the fastest. Blind stitching and serging may take longer, depending on the size and complexity. Our team reviews the full timeline during your showroom consultation so you know what to expect before placing your order.
Fabric binding wraps a strip of fabric around the edge of the rug for a clean, tailored look. Serging wraps yarn around the edge for a classic, hand-finished appearance. Blind stitching folds the carpet edge under and stitches it invisibly for a seamless finish. Each method has a different look and price point. We keep samples of all three in our showrooms so you can compare them side by side.
Yes. We professionally install custom stair runners, including straight runs, curved staircases, and landings. Most stair runner projects require two visits: one for measuring and cutting, and a second for installation after the edge finishing is complete. We do not install runner rods. Our runners are fully adhered to for a secure, professional fit.
It depends on the room. For living rooms, the rug should be large enough for all front furniture legs to sit on it. For bedrooms, extend the rug 18 to 24 inches beyond the bed frame on each side. For dining rooms, the rug should be large enough for chairs to remain on the rug when pulled out. If you are unsure, bring your room dimensions to any of our showrooms and our team will help you determine the right size.
Yes. Our Mohawk Credit Card through Synchrony provides 12 months interest-free on custom rug and runner projects, including materials and installation. This applies to both pre-made area rugs and custom-cut rugs from carpet.
